This role combines team leadership and customer service with regular yard duties, including forklift driving, loading and unloading vehicles, picking orders and maintaining an organised and safe yard.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in a building supplies yard, timber merchant, hardware business or similar trade environment.
This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week, including one weekend day on a roster.
The Role
- Work hands-on in the yard alongside the trade team.
- Operate a forklift to move, load and unload building materials.
- Pick and prepare customer orders accurately and efficiently.
- Load trade customers’ and contractors’ vehicles safely.
- Receive incoming deliveries and check stock.
- Keep the yard clean, organised and safe.
- Lead, support and coordinate the day-to-day activities of the trade team.
- Provide excellent service to customers, builders and contractors.
- Ensure orders are completed correctly and on time.
- Monitor stock availability and support accurate inventory management.
- Maintain high workplace health and safety standards.
- Assist with Duty Management responsibilities when required.
- Experience working in a trade yard, building supplies business, timber merchant, hardware store or construction-related environment.
- Forklift driving experience, ideally with a current OSH forklift certificate.
- Previous team leadership or supervisory experience.
- Comfortable undertaking physical yard duties and working outdoors.
- Knowledge of timber, building materials, hardware or power tools.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- A practical, organised and hands-on approach.
- The ability to coordinate workloads and keep the yard operating efficiently.
- A strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
- A full New Zealand Class 1 Driver Licence.
- The ability to obtain a forklift certificate if you do not already hold one.
